QR Too Far
This bothers me.
I was in Kelowna this last weekend, and I am going to make a generalization, everyone there is OBSESSED with QR codes. Oh, and plastic surgery, blond hair and tribal tattoos, but that’s not what this post is about. Photographed here, is the most ridiculous use of the ridiculous QR code I have seen to date. Not only do I think they’ve completely missed the mark on their target demographic (I think it might be a seniors complex), they completely covered up all their branding and contact information, AND I think it’s totally socially irresponsible.
Are they selling condos or QR codes? I can’t tell.

Making Buttons
The Seed is hosting a FUNdraiser for Paula Kiss tonight. Bradley, my enthusiastic office mate is busy making buttons.
Here is an informational video on how to make a Vote Kiss button.

Planting Garlic
It was 1 year ago, to the day, since I last blogged about my Dad, the Garlic Farmer. Update: He’s still a farmer and we had a great harvest!
Things have changed and evolved in the last year. Firstly, I can no longer call just my Dad the Garlic Farmer. My Brother and his family have come on board, hook, line and sinker. Collectively, our family is committed to some hard and satisfying work. We’ve since named the farm, Goat Creek Garlic and we can now be found on Twitter @goatcreekgarlic. We planted over 15,000 heads this year, we’ve acquired a tractor and an iPhone.
Captured here: Breaking the heads apart.
And here: Planting, a farmer and some farm kids.

The Pen
We did a mega reconfiguration of the Seed and Inthekoots office this last weekend. I now sit next to the office playpen.
It’s actually not that bad… turns out it’s well used.

It sounds better when Steve says it…
I have been waiting my whole life to hear Steve Darling say the two words I love most: Grand. Forks.
Sucks, but its good for me.
I have started personal training. It makes me want to “barf and kill myself at the same time”. But it’s worth it! Aaaannnd…. I am blogging about it!
Happy Christmas
It may seem odd. But last year my family shared an unexpected, special and memorable moment listening to this. The result, my nephew sings Happy Christmas all year round, which is a relief to me. I now feel its genetic to have some form of a Holiday tune in your head 365 days of the year.
Happy Christmas & Joy to the World!

Ice Fishing
I went ice fishing! I caught fish! Two of them!
My Dad and I went up to Jewel Lake yesterday to meet up with Sam’s forging partner, Willy, his son and a half a dozen early twenty gforkers that I don’t know and was oddly intimidated by. I have said it before and I will say it again, teenagers scare me! I felt that way even when I was one…
Annnnyyyyway, this was my first real sincere attempt at ice fishing since early
childhood. The day was a success, I caught two fish, two Rainbow Trout, each weighing in just under a pound. But I am a terrible fisherman. Drill hole: check, shrimp on hook: check, hook in water: check, sit and stare at hole and rod: check, jig rod: check, eat sandwhich while waiting for something to happen: check, see rod moving – pull up quickly and reel in: check….. take pictures of frozen dead fish in the snow: check. There is a disconnect when it comes to me and the fish… captured here: one of the six Brook Trout my Dad caught and me and the fish bonding, or not…
Tolstoy
This is interesting for me on many levels….
1. The Great-Great Grandson of Tolstoy has been coined my “First Celebrity Siting” when I met him while visiting Yasnaya Polyana in 1999
2. The two Canadians interviewed are close family friends and Elaine was in fact my Russian teacher.
3. Tolstoy’s novel Resurrection helped fund the Doukhobor people to relocated from Russia to Canada and therefore, changing the course of my life altogether.
